Opening: Lighting Intern (Summer 2025)

LOCATION: Hybrid (2 Days In Office – The Woodlands, TX; 3 Days Remote)
KPK Lighting Design is an award-winning, fast-growing design firm based out of Houston, Texas. KPK is looking to bring on new designers to work on a variety of project types including high end multifamily towers, corporate interiors, mixed use, hospitality, retail, restaurant and residential.
Potential candidates should be hardworking, creative, and detail-oriented with strong written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills.
Qualifications:
Junior or Senior level undergraduate student in the school of Interior Design, Architecture or Architectural Engineering.
A team player who is willing to pitch in on other projects to meet deadlines
A self-motivated individual with excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and willingness to learn new tasks
Time management skills and the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, InDesign, MS Office
Knowledge or working experience in AGI32 or Bluebeam Revu is preferred
Responsibilities:
Be an active participant in the completion of all phases of lighting design scope of work for individual projects from schematic design to construction administration.
Complete Lighting Fixture Schedules in Excel with coordinating Cutsheet packages based on the lighting design direction provided by team leadership. Implement Schedules including Lighting Control Intents into Revit based on company BIM Standards. Draft and/or model lighting design from redlines provided by design leadership into AutoCAD or Revit. A solid understanding of Revit is needed as 99% of projects are documented in Revit.
Attend virtual and/or in person weekly team meetings to schedule deadlines and tasks via Asana (task board application). Virtual and/or in person Client meetings will be attended to ensure the project needs are met thoroughly and efficiently. Lastly, design team virtual and/or break-out meetings will take place for design/redline sessions.
Coordination with Sales Reps will also be needed in preparation of Cost Estimates and completion of Schedules. Project management from design through construction is needed so every RFI, email and phone call is responded to in a timely manner.
The vast majority of KPK projects are contracted through Construction Administration. Travel within the greater Houston area may be required to job sites for preliminary walk throughs to evaluate installations as well as final aiming and dimming visits. Note taking while on site and documentation of Punch Lists and final dimming levels will be done as part of final project documentation.
