Opening: Senior Lighting Designer (Part-Time)

LOCATION: Remote 

KPK Lighting Design is an award-winning, fast-growing design firm based in Houston, Texas. We’re looking to bring on a senior designer to work on a variety of project types, including high-end multifamily towers, corporate interiors, mixed-use, hospitality, retail, restaurant, and residential.

Qualifications

  • 5–10 years of experience with an independent architectural lighting design firm, with practical experience across interior, exterior, and landscape environments

  • Strong experience producing lighting fixture schedules, lighting control intent narratives, and riser diagrams

  • Deep understanding of luminaire performance and solid skills in photometric calculations

  • Experience in construction-phase services, including aiming and dimming during commissioning

  • A team player willing to pitch in on other projects to meet deadlines

  • Self-motivated with excellent organizational skills, strong attention to detail, and a willingness to learn

  • Strong time-management skills and the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, AGi32, Adobe InDesign, Microsoft Office, and Bluebeam Revu

Responsibilities

  • Participate in all phases of the lighting design scope—from schematic design through construction administration

  • Spearhead project lighting design in coordination with team leadership to ensure company design direction and standards are met

  • Create lighting fixture schedules in Excel with coordinating cut-sheet packages based on the design direction

  • Review and oversee implementation of schedules and lighting control intents in Revit per company BIM standards

  • Review translation of redlines into AutoCAD or Revit; provide drafting support as needed to meet deadlines (most projects are documented in Revit)

  • Attend weekly virtual team meetings to plan deadlines and tasks in Asana

  • Attend virtual and/or in-person client meetings to ensure project needs are met efficiently

  • Join internal design and breakout sessions for design reviews and redline work

  • Coordinate with sales reps to prepare cost estimates and complete schedules

  • Manage projects from design through construction so RFIs, submittals, emails, and calls are handled promptly

  • Travel to job sites as needed for preliminary walkthroughs, final aiming, and dimming visits

  • Communicate effectively with electricians to ensure accurate, efficient aiming within the allotted time

  • Maintain thorough site notes and document punch lists and final dimming levels as part of project closeout
